Offering for the Earth: A Biorthythmic Celebration of Hildegard von Bingen blends the music and the teachings of the medieval composer, thought leader, and naturalist responsible for composing some of the earliest iterations of Western opera. However, rather than accompanying them with period instrumentation, I improvise and blend her melodies with the live biorhythms of plants.
This was a commission to create a single concert for the St. Louis Concert Series in Baltimore, MD. Although originally intended for the campus' historic stone chapel, which seats 150, the concert sold out four weeks before the event and was relocated to a larger venue, where we accommodated over 400 attendees, becoming the highest grossing ticketed event in the concert series' 20-year history.

It was as if Hildegard herself was reaching forward though the centuries and expressing herself once again through Alex’s performance and their shared love of creation. It was transcendent. Should you have the opportunity to see this program yourself, you should not miss it!! I can’t guarantee that you will time travel, but I can guarantee a truly unique and delightful experience of music making, divinely inspired by creation.
