Alex is a BMI Musical Theatre Advanced Bookwriting Cohort Member. She is the performer, writer, lyricist and composer of two solo shows, she is currently on commission developing a new musical at Brooklyn Children's Theatre, and in Fall '26, she will continue her journey at BMI working on La Generala— a new musical about the 18th Century Filipina freedom fighter Gabriela Silang, the first woman to lead a revolution against Spain.
0874: A Filipino-American Love Story
0874 is a musical about Alexandra Palting’s grandparents’ courtship and immigration as told through their 874 love letters. At the beginning of letter one, Palting’s grandmother, Paz, wanted to be a nun in Manila; by the last letter, she traveled across the world to start a new life with her husband Jun. The story oscillates between the world of the letters and the present, the Philippines and the United States, and explores truth’s relationship to time, distance and intimacy within the context of family, and the courage to grow up with another.
Offering for the Earth: A Biorhythmic Celebration of Hildegard von Bingen
In this concert, performing artist Alexandra Palting blends the sacred medieval songs of St. Hildegard Von Bingen with modern electronic music generated from the biorhythms of plants, creating an environment that fuses past and present, technology and music.
In today’s world of information overflow, Hildegard's legacy serves as an enduring example that knowledge and wonder can and should coexist. This concert promises to ignite curiosity about the natural world and open our hearts toward becoming faithful stewards of the Earth.
La Generala: The Rise, Fall, and Revolution of Gabriela Silang
La Generala tells the true story of the passionate but distant Filipina-Hispanic Gabriela Silang, the "Joan of Arc of the Philippines," who is content to hide behind her husband's shadow until the day that he is killed by her closest friend.
From then, she avenges their stolen future and leads a campaign for a home free of Spanish occupation, despite the fears of those who care for her and the consequences for those who believe in her. Until at last her bravery turns to irredeemable recklessness and she is captured and executed by her own husband's assassin.
Because of this, she leaves behind a hopeful but complicated legacy for generations of resistance fighters to come, including my great-grandfathers, revealing that even without purity of heart, intention and identity, it is possible to embolden others with the courage to fight for the home she gave her life to attain.
The Cotton Candy
Wish Tree
A commission of Brooklyn Children's Theatre's 2026 Writer's Lab, The Cotton Candy Wish Tree is a 10-minute musical with music and lyrics by Rae Covey, based on story ideas from 3rd-grade students selected by BCT, and designed for young, first-time performers ages 7-10.
In Candyland, the Marshmallow Merfolk, Bubble Gum Fairies, and Hershey Hunters all have very important jobs to do to protect the Cotton Candy Wish Tree. But when the Tree offers to make one special wish come true tomorrow, they fight over who deserves it... with crazy consequences! Can they put themselves in each other's shoes, put others before themselves, and save the Wish Tree in time for Wish Day?
